Chelsea Have ‘Internally Discussed’ Signing £100M City Player This Summer

Chelsea are weighing up a summer bid for Manchester City attacking midfielder Jack Grealish, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Writing in his Substack, Phillips said that there is an acceptance that the England international will leave the Etihad at the end of the season, with Stamford Bridge one of his potential destinations:

“Another winger I am told has been internally discussed at Chelsea recently, is Manchester City’s Jack Grealish. The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to his former club Aston Villa in recent weeks, and due to his bit-part role at City, there is a belief in the industry that he will be available for transfer this summer and also, he is likely to be open to moving to another club where he will have a more important role at.”

Grealish has had his problems with form and injury this campaign and his future at City has been questioned in recent months.

The City star has had a rather poor season

Grealish has made 35 appearances in all competitions but the 28-year-old has only started 10 league games. When the winger has been on the pitch, he hasn’t been that effective either, having scored just 3 goals and provided only 3 assists.

Manager Pep Guardiola hasn’t lost faith in Grealish, having started him in both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid earlier this month, but he is struggling to produce the sort of performances you would expect from a player who cost a club record £100m.

Grealish could be sold to make way for other signings

City are known to be interested in Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala. Like Grealish, he can play both as a No.10 or out on the left wing.

If the German international does become available, it would make sense if Grealish was the one to make way. Whether the Premier League champions would sanction his sale to Chelsea, though, it remains to be seen.
