The Significance Of Cole Palmer At Chelsea FC

The 2023/24 season has been a challenging one for Chelsea FC and its fans and I can say that the fans of the Blues started enjoying their team at the tail end of the season.

The season has been a mixed one for the Stamford Bridge outfit, and with just 2 games to go at the time of writing, one major consolation that fans of the club can revel in is Cole Palmer.

Chelsea fans were looking for big-name signings, and when the acquisition of Cole Palmer was announced, he seemed a far cry from expectations as he came without any hype or notable track records.

This was unlike the likes of the Phil Fodens, the Sakas, the Mitomas, and the Gernachos, amongst others at the time.

However, the Englishman has silenced every doubt and with two games left, is just second behind the prolific Erling Haaland on the goalscorers’ charts with a whopping 21 goals to his name at the time of writing.

It is a no-brainer amongst Chelsea fans and even rivals that Cole Palmer is undoubtedly the Blues’ best player of the 2023/24 season and also one of the best players in the Premier League, regardless of the side’s inconsistencies under current manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Cole Palmer’s Notable Contributions To Chelsea in 2023/24

No one would have bet on him to be the main man at the Bridge at the start of the 2023/24 season;

Not after major acquisitions were made. However, the young lad has carved a niche for himself as the one who makes things happen on the pitch and is current levels above his counterparts on the pitch and in consistent top-notch performances.

  • He is the highest goal scorer at Chelsea in the 2023/24 season with 21 goals in the Premier League and 10 assists thus far, and no one comes close. He is second to Ollie Watkins on the assists table; the latter has 13 thus far.
  • He is also Chelsea’s designated penalty taker and this is a big one considering that this is his first season at the club.
  • It can be recalled that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino had to exert his authority on Palmer’s role as preferred PK taker after the Englishman had some disagreements on the pitch with teammates Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson.

Cole Palmer And The Future At Chelsea

Cole Palmer is committed to the Chelsea project based on his contributions to the team this term. However, it remains to be seen if he will be better next season after taking the Premier League by storm this term.

Opposition teams have seen his threat and will not undermine him next season. Therefore, next season will be crucial to Palmer’s development at Chelsea and it remains to be seen if he will be more consistent, improve in standard, or cower under pressure.

Regardless, he has two more games to play for the Blues against Brighton and Bournemouth before the end of the 2023/24 season and I daresay that no one will be betting against him scoring or making a significant contribution.
