Rohit Sharma set to retire post T20 World Cup 2024 after Hardik Pandya’s inclusion in 15-member squad; Reports

Rohit Sharma has been a cornerstone of India’s white-ball cricket for more than a decade, leading the team to numerous victories, including triumphs in the 2018 and 2024 Asia Cup tournaments. However, his recent performance, particularly in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), has raised concerns. With age becoming a factor, speculation is mounting that the seasoned batter may retire from T20Is following the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.

Rohit Sharma set to retire after T20 World Cup?

Reportedly, Dainik Jagran disclosed that Hardik Pandya‘s appointment as vice-captain was influenced by the suggestions of Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI) officials, who envision him as a potential future leader. Moreover, Pandya’s performance as captain for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL has been inconsistent.

The Indian cricket team seems to be on the verge of a significant shift in its T20I lineup. Recent reports indicate that captain Rohit might be approaching his final appearances in T20 Internationals following the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the West Indies and USA. This potential departure is believed to be influenced by the contentious decision to appoint Pandya as the vice-captain for India’s T20 World Cup squad.
