Directed by Sidharth P Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment, the historical drama Maharaj features Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan in his debut role, alongside Jaideep Ahlawat and Shalini Pandey, with a special appearance by Sharvari. The film, based on the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case, faced a temporary setback on its release due to a legal stay by the Gujarat High Court, which was lifted last week on June 21.
Jaideep Ahlawat, who plays Jadunath Maharaj, lost more than 26 kgs in five months for the film. The actor shared the photos and video of his stunning physical transformation on his Instagram. Sharing the before and after photos, Jaideep wrote, “From 109.7 kg to 83 kg in 5 months. That’s the physical transformation for the role of Maharaj.” “Morphing into a different character with each movie is every actors dream, I just so happen to be living out mine”, he wrote along with the video he shared. His amazing transformation received a thundering response from his fans.
Ahlawat had also revealed that he had initial doubts about signing Maharaj. He told ANI, “In the beginning, I thought that this is a very difficult character. It is not going to be easy to handle. I told my brother that I don’t think I can do this.” The turning point for Jaideep came after a meeting with the film’s director, where he was reassured by the strong vision and compelling narrative presented. “The way he narrated Maharaj, I was like, yes, I should do this”, the actor concluded. Maharaj is now streaming on Netflix.
