This low-budget film, which saw several delays, became a sleeper-hit upon release.

Bollywood films like Queen, Stree, and more, had a slow start at the box office, however, emerged to be sleeper-hit. Another such film, which was made on a low budget, launched a star kid, became a hit, and gave 3 stars to Bollywood.

The film we are talking about starred newcomers and was compared to Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, however, became a hit upon release. It is none other than Shahid Kapoor-starrer Ishq Vishk.

Helmed by Ken Ghosh, Ishq Vishk starred Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao, and Shenaz Treasurywala in key roles. The film marked Shahid Kapoor’s debut in Bollywood and made him famous as the ‘chocolate boy’ in the industry. Made in Rs 5 crore, the film earned over Rs 10 crore worldwide at the box office and despite facing delays and being compared to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the film became a sleeper-hit at the box office.

However, do you know that Shahid was rejected when he first gave the audition? Well yes, Shahid Kapoor first auditioned for Ishq Vishq but was rejected because of his thin frame. Ken Ghosh was not happy with him. But the film got delayed for a year for unknown reasons. This allowed Shahid to work on his body. The second time around the talent auditions Shahid scored big points with Ken Ghosh and the producer of the film.

In fact, Shenaz Treasurywala was selected for the movie when she met director Ken Ghosh at a pub and he randomly offered her a role in the film. Ken saw Amrita Rao in several advertisements and decided to cast her as the lead opposite Shahid Kapoor. The film made all of them a star, however, both the actresses have now left the showbiz after some successful movies.

Upon release of the film, it was compared to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Talking about the same, the director told Times Now, “Apart from the fact that both films are set on a campus and they both are about two girls and a boy, there is no similarity. But yes, Shahid does faintly resemble Shah Rukh Khan.”

Meanwhile, recently the sequel of the film, Ishq Vishk Rebound starring Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan, and Naila Grewal was released in theatres. The film opened to mixed response from the audience and is running slow at the box office as well.
