With the passing percentage of Std X being higher this year compared to 2023, cut-offs for prominent colleges in the city are expected to be high for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions. The first-come-first-served (FCFS) round has been done away with. The FCFS gave the students the opportunity to apply for seats remaining after the regular admission process. Earlier this week, the deputy director of school education’s office released details on the process and the available seats for junior college aspirants and the admission process for FYJC kicked off on June 5.
As per data, the number of junior colleges has increased from 1,017 to 1,045 across Mumbai and MMR, with the total seats rising to 3,99,235 from 3,75,000 last year. Of these, 1,51,735 are quota seats. The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for junior colleges will be conducted entirely online.
The registration process
All aspirants will have to register on and create their unique login ID.
Part I of the registration form, part of the pre-registration process, began last week. Starting June 5, students can submit Part II, which includes their college selections. Last year’s admission cut-offs are available online for reference.
“The state aims to complete the process by the end of July, based on merit only,” said an official from the office of the deputy director of school education in Mumbai.
Quota admissions
There will be two-seat allotment lists under round zero of admissions, covering minority, management, and in-house quotas in colleges. According to data from the deputy director of school education, there are a total of 1,51,735 seats under various quotas.
According to the schedule, these admissions will conclude on June 22, after which the seats will be surrendered for the CAP rounds. If a seat is allotted in the college of first choice or preference, it will be mandatory for the candidate to confirm the admission. Failure to do so will result in the student being out of the admission process. Such candidates can only return to the CAP after a gap of one round.
