Man City Named As One Of 3 Clubs Prepared To Make Lucrative Proposal To 16 Cap France International

Manchester City are waiting in the wings if Mike Maignan decides against committing his long-term future to AC Milan, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian publication claims that the 28-year-old has big ambitions and he will only sign on the dotted line if he believes he can win trophies with the Rossoneri.

Maignan is said to have thought long and hard about his future and, while staying in Italy is said to be the most likely scenario at the moment, things could still change.

The Frenchman (who has been capped 16 times by his country) will head into a major tournament as first choice for the first time and, if he does have a good Euros, Gazzetta believe his salary demands could skyrocket.

They name City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain as being “capable of offering him a much higher salary” than the €3.2m a year he is currently earning.

Why are City interested in Maignan?

The future of current number one Ederson is up in the air. Talks over a new contract have stalled and he is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.

Al-Nassr were believed to be frontrunners for the Brazilian international but they are now closing in on a deal for ex-Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny instead. Al-Ittihad have, though, also been linked.

If Ederson were to be sold, the Premier League champions may seriously contemplate recruiting a replacement like Maignan.

How does Stefan Ortega’s new contract affect things?

It was announced last week that the German had signed an extension until the end of the 2025/26 season. It was widely anticipated that the club’s no.2 would leave in search of first-team football but the new deal indicates he has been given some assurances about his game time.

You could argue that Ortega’s decision to commit his future to City may make a move for Maignan less likely, even if Ederson is sold.
