Club Chief Claims £80M City Ace “Won’t Be Moving” This Summer Despite Interest From Atletico, Chelsea And PSG

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has declared that Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez won’t be moving clubs this summer.

The Spanish club, along with Chelsea and Manchester City, have been credited with an interest in the Argentinian international but Cerezo played down the prospect of a transfer taking place.

“Julian Alvarez is a Manchester City player and I believe he won’t be moving from there.”

It is believed that City striker is unhappy about his lack of game time, despite having started 39 times in all competitions last season.

However, despite Alvarez seemingly pressing for a switch away from the Etihad, the Cityzens are not prepared to let him leave.

City had set an asking price for the player

It was reported last week that the Premier League champions would only let Alvarez go if a team paid in excess of £80m, but it does appear now that the club won’t accept any offers.

A move to Atletico always looked unlikely simply because of the cost of the deal. The La Liga side are not among the wealthiest clubs in Europe.

Chelsea’s interest was not a complete surprise, considering they are keen on snapping up a new no.9, but their current focus is said to be on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. PSG would probably have been Alvarez’s most likely destination.

Will Alvarez be happy to stay?

As mentioned, it is not as though manager Pep Guardiola has been keeping the 24-year-old on the bench week after week. Most players would be happy with 39 starts if it was offered to them.

Of course, Alvarez has had to play some of those matches out of position due to the presence of Erling Haaland but, even so, Guardiola picked him as a centre-forward on no less than 22 occasions.
