Two people were killed in a major accident involving a luxury car in Pune city of Maharashtra, the police said on Sunday, the ANI reported.
The incident took place at 3.15 am on Sunday.
A luxury car hit a motorcycle near Kalyani Nagar in Pune city leading to the death of two people, including a young woman, the police said.
The duo died on the spot, said the police.
The deceased have been identified as Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, the police said.
According to DCP Vijay Kumar Magar, Pune City Police, “A bike rider and pillion were killed when a speeding Porsche car hit them from behind in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune City last night. The accused has been arrested. FIR has been registered,” as per the ANI.
“Further investigation is underway, and police are also verifying the certificates to ascertain the age of the accused, as he claimed to be a minor,” DCP Magar added, the news agency reported on Sunday.
Police have booked a minor on charges of rash and negligent driving and causing harm by endangering the life or personal safety of others at Yerwaad Police Station of Pune City Police under IPC Section 304A, 279, 337, 337, 338, 427, and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act.
According to the FIR, a group of friends were returning home on their bikes from a party in one of the restaurants in Kalyani Nagar.
“When they arrived at the Kalyani Nagar junction, a speeding, luxurious car hit the bike on which the deceased duo were travelling. The two fell from the bike and died on the spot. After knocking on the duo, the car crashed into the roadside pavement railings,” the FIR stated, the PTI reported.
Video footage of the accident showed a group of people thrashing the driver as he tried to come out of his crashed car. A case has been registered at the Yerawada Police Station and police are probing the matter further, according to the PTI.
Horse injured, vehicles damaged as billboard collapses in Pune
A horse was injured and a few vehicles were damaged after a hoarding collapsed due to strong winds in Maharashtra`s Pune city, police said, reported the PTI.
The billboard crashed to the ground between 5 pm and 6 pm on Saturday outside a wedding hall near Kavdi Pat toll booth on the Pune-Solapur Highway, an official said, as per the PTI.
