IPL 2024: “Mera toh ye last hai…” – Rohit Sharma’s chat with Abhishek Nayar goes viral ahead of KKR vs MI clash

Mumbai Indians (MI), a powerhouse franchise with five IPL titles, are enduring a disastrous 2024 season. The cracks began to show months before the season opener when Hardik Pandya was named captain, replacing the iconic Rohit Sharma.

This decision sparked fan outrage. Hardik was met with boos at away venues and online criticism, with many feeling Rohit was unfairly ousted. This turmoil translated onto the field, and MI became the first team eliminated from playoff contention.

Rohit Sharma’s cryptic message

Fuelling speculation further, a video surfaced on social media before MI’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The clip showed Rohit in conversation with KKR’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, expressing his discontent with recent events at the Mumbai Indians. Although he didn’t explicitly mention the franchise, his words resonated:

“Ek ek cheez change ho raha hai, sab unke upar hai, me dhyaan nahi deta,” (Everything is changing one by one, it depends on them, I don’t care about that)

“Jo bhi hai, mera ghar hai. Maine temple banaya hai (That’s my home, whatever it may be. It’s a temple that I’ve created).”

With the playoffs out of reach, Friday’s match against the table-topping KKR holds little significance for MI. However, questions about the franchise’s leadership and Rohit’s future remain. The off-season promises to be a period of introspection and potential significant changes for MI as they look to reclaim their past glory.
