ATEEZ Producers’ Method Of Line Distribution For Songs Receives Major Backlash

“Somehow results in some getting absolutely nothing…”

ATEEZ are true all-rounders. Whether it’s singing, dancing, rapping, and variety, all eight members can do it all, which probably makes picking lines and parts for songs incredibly difficult as they’re all so talented.

However, the method used for picking parts by the producers of the new album has sparked anger among fans.

Recently, ATEEZ posted some behind-the-scenes footage from the recording of their new album, GOLDEN HOUR: Part 1. At one point, Seonghwa was spotted singing and explained that (aside from the rap parts) the lines hadn’t been assigned, so he was learning them all.

While looking at the lyric sheet, Seonghwa pointed out that he didn’t have a part yet.

Seonghwa then added that after singing the song, the lines would be picked, and he would re-record the parts he was given.

I’ll sing the whole song, and then the producers will designate my lines. And after I get my lines, I practice it and record it one more time.

Seonghwa then joked, “It’s time to compete!”

The video then skipped to members Seonghwa, Yunho, Wooyoung, and Jongho, who were all “competing” for the lines and parts they wanted the most.

The final scene saw the caption, “After the parts are assigned after the fierce competition.”

When the video was posted, netizens shared their anger at the “competition” between members. Fans knew that there wasn’t anything malicious between the members, but instead, they placed blame on the producers. Many thought that the producer’s job should be to create songs with members’ vocals in mind to match lines rather than competing.

In particular, there has been a discourse of members Yeosang and Wooyoung not getting many lines and some thought there could be unfair bias from producers by using this method to assign lines.

While it might be a common way of distributing lines for idols, seeing the reality and wording for a group like ATEEZ where all the members are talented, KQ Entertainment has been criticized for distributing parts and has gained a lot of negativity from fans.
