- The Association of American Railroads [AAR] reported on Wednesday that for the week ending June 22, 2024, U.S. rail traffic was 485,557 carloads and intermodal units, up 3.6% year-over-year.
- Total carloads for the week fell 0.8% to 220,096 carloads, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 265,461 containers and trailers, rising 7.5%.
- Five of the 10 carload community groups posted a year-over-year increase for the week. They included grain, chemicals, and farm products excluding grain, and food.
- Commodity groups that fell year-over-year for the week included coal, miscellaneous carloads, and metallic ores and metals.
- North American rail volume for the week, on 10 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads was 323,953 carloads, down 1.6% year-over-year, and 347,092 intermodal units, up 5.4%.
- Canadian railroads reported 87,919 carloads for the week, down 1.5%, and 69,471 intermodal units, up 0.2%.
- Mexican railroads reported 15,938 carloads for the week, down 12.5%, and 12,160 intermodal units, down 6.9%.
