AT&T (NYSE:T) announced on Friday that former Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) executive and Yahoo Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer has been named to the telecom company’s board of directors, effectively immediately.
She will serve on the Audit and Corporate Development and Finance committees.
Mayer is currently the Chief Executive of Sunshine Products, a technology start-up she co-founded in 2018, that focuses on cleaning up a person’s digital contacts.
“Mayer’s extensive background in technology and her deep understanding of how consumers experience and engage with the internet will be a valuable addition to the board,” said AT&T chairman Bill Kennard in a statement.
Mayer joining AT&T’s board of directors marks something of a return to the telecom industry for the48-year-old tech executive. Under her stewardship, Yahoo was acquired by Verizon (VZ) in 2017 for roughly $4.8B. Verizon then merged Yahoo with AOL to create Oath, which was led by former Google executive Tim Armstrong.
Mayer resigned from Yahoo after Verizon completed the merger.
In addition She is also a member of Walmart’s (WMT) board of directors, having joined in 2012.
AT&T shares finished up 0.3% on Friday to close at $16.98.
