‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’ star Divya Dutta reveals how THIS movie challenged her her initial dreams of being quintessential Bollywood actress |

Actress Divya Dutta, known for her remarkable performances in films such as ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,’ ‘Delhi-6,’ ‘Veer-Zaara,’ and more has shared intriguing insights into her Bollywood journey. Most recently seen in Tahira Kashyap‘s ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti,’ Divya Dutta‘s career spans over two decades, marked by a blend of iconic roles and a deep sense of purpose.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Divya Dutta reminisced about her early days in the film industry. She recalled her debut in ‘Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna’ back in 1994 and how she envisioned her Bollywood career. She initially dreamed of donning chiffon sarees and performing in rain-soaked dance sequences, a staple fantasy of Bollywood cinema. This dream was momentarily challenged when she was offered a role in the 1998 film ‘Train To Pakistan,’ based on Khushwant Singh‘s 1956 novel. Directed by Pamela Rooks, the film was set against the grim backdrop of the 1947 Partition of India. The actress confessed she was unsure about accepting the role, as it starkly contrasted with her glamorous Bollywood dreams.
Despite the initial hesitation, she embraced the unexpected path. To her surprise, ‘Train To Pakistan’ became such a learning experience in her Bollywood journey. On the one hand, where it helped her garner so much love, on the other hand, it broadened her perspective on the types of roles she was willing to explore. She said, “The universe has its ways of giving you what you want. You will get what you want, but the ways can be different.”When discussing her approach to selecting roles, the ‘Manto’ star emphasized the importance of intuition. She revealed that her decisions are driven by a gut feeling. If a role resonates with her, she immediately agrees to it; if not, she declines without hesitation. This instinctive approach has guided her through numerous successful projects, ensuring that she remains authentic to herself and her craft. Divya Dutta expressed a desire to be part of a meaningful journey, whether through the vision of a director or the depth of a character.
Coming to her latest project, ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti,’ is another testament to her versatile talent. Released on June 28, the movie is available on Amazon Prime and it boasts a talented ensemble cast including Saiyami Kher, Sakshi Tanwar, Sharib Hashmi, and Parvin Dabas.
