When answering why the film industry is always ruled by some stars and their followers while cricket always manages to unearth fresh talents, Sharmila added that the word “creative” itself is very problematic. Satyajit Ray taught her that one may not need an extraordinary budget to make a great film. It needs extraordinary imagination, extraordinary talent, and an extraordinary comprehension of what cinema is all about. She further added that Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’ is not an expensive film, but it won at Cannes. She is looking forward to watching it.

Earlier, Sharmila revealed that she enjoys watching cricket but is not involved in the lives of cricketers. She met her late husband, cricketer Tiger Pataudi, at a cricket party in Kolkata, and they exchanged telephone numbers. They decided to go for a coffee date after a prank call from each other.
