Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone is setting records not only in India, but also in North America. In its latest report Times Of India revealed that Telugu is the 11th most spoken language in the United States of America, accounting for nearly 12.3 lakh population. With such a huge number, it is more than a given that a film in their home language will be lapped up in no time.And this is exactly what’s happening with Kalki 2898 AD.
The film, which was released across the globe on 27th June had its premiere in the USA on 26th June and it received massive support. The film went on to mint US $ 3.85 million making it the highest ever collection for premiere shows in North America ( USA and Canada) beating SS Rajamouli, Jr.NTR and Ram Charan’s RRR which held the record for two years with nearly US $ 3.5 million collection. The craze for the film hasn’t died out on its first day, where it had till late evening, earned nearly US $ 1.65 million with nearly US $ 1.3 million coming from the Telugu version, thus taking the total collection to US $ 5.51 million (Rs 46 crore) . Going by the numbers, the film is expected to have a US $ 10 million to US $ 12 million weekend and till date, only Baahubali 2 has been able to achieve this feat.
The film also has guest appearances by Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, SS Rajamouli and Ram Gopal Varma.
