It is a massive day today, and Nag Ashwin’s latest release Kalki 2898 AD starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan , Prabhas, Deepika and Disha Patani has set the box office on fire .
Shows for the mythological sci-fi futuristic film started as early as 4:30 am, and since then, celebrations have not stopped. The film has been peppered with cameo appearances by Mrunal Thakur, Dulquer Salmaan , Vijay Deverakonda, Ram Gopal Varma and SS Rajamouli.The film till this point, has earned Rs 27.08 crore from its morning shows as per Sacnilk. The Telugu 2D format is showing 86 % occupancy and Telugu 3D is showing 77.70 % occupancy, whereas in Hindi belt, the film is showing 18.51 % occupancy in 2D, and 28.44 % occupancy in 3D.
As per advance booking, the film has managed to amass more than Rs 61 crore, and it would be interesting to see how big the day 1 collection for the film goes, as many are expecting it to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
Prabhas’ past few films have also taken a massive opening at the box office be it Adipurush which earned Rs 86.75 crore and Salaar: Part1- Ceasefire, that had earned Rs 90.7 crore across languages, with only Radhye Shyam opening to just Rs 43 crore.
Even in North America, where the premiere shows of the film are currently taking place, it has crossed the US $ 3.6 million mark. With this it has become the highest grossing premiere day number for any Indian film, beating the record holder RRR, which was directed by SS Rajamouli and starred Jr.NTR and Ram Charan.
