Nag Ashwin‘s highly anticipated film ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ has finally been released in theatres and it’s all that anyone on the internet is talking about.
Fans rushed to theatres in the early hours of Thursday morning to catch the early shows and going by the reactions, they had only the best things to say. Both the audience and critics alike hailed the film as a landmark achievement in Indian cinema.Starring the powerhouse trio of Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, the film has set social media abuzz with glowing reviews and high praise for its innovative storytelling and stunning visuals. However, a significant portion of the audience has expressed dissatisfaction with the casting of Disha Patani.

‘KALKI 2898 AD’: Fans Review Prabhas, Deepika, Amitabh Bachchan Magnum Opus

The Bollywood actress played a minimal of a character named Roxie and shared a few scenes with Prabhas, including a song sequence. However, her cameo in the film has left audiences best describing it as the “only issue” in the otherwise ‘brilliant’ film.
Social media has been flooded with comments questioning Patani’s role. One viewer bluntly stated, “I don’t know why Disha is in the film.”

Another echoed this sentiment, tweeting, “Watched #Kalki2898AD, great concept and well executed with a good cast! My only issue with the movie is the unwanted casting of Disha Patani and the love track of 5-7 minutes! Show stealer is definitely Amitabh Bachchan.”
Critics have pointed out that Patani’s scenes felt ‘out of place’ in the grand narrative of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. One review read, “Sorry, don’t take me wrong but this is the worst part in the movie. It is completely unnecessary & does not belong in a film like #Kalki. #NagAshwin could have shown the complex’s rich society’s morally corrupt behavior instead.”

Others guessed that her role in the first film may have just been a teaser for something bigger at play in the Kalki universe. Sharing hope for a more substantial development of her character in future instalments, one fan tweeted, “The only negative in the movie for me is the 10-minute section of Disha Patani which was not at all required. I just hope she has a bigger role in the next part, else it was just a wasted 10 minutes.”

The scenes involving Prabhas and Patani also drew criticism for disrupting the film’s action-packed narrative and plot that also touched upon serious topics of mythology, corruption and power struggle. One tweet noted, “Prabhas and Disha’s song scene feels a bit off and doesn’t quite fit in the movie’s flow.” Another simply stated, “Prabhas and Disha part big let down.”

There were some who even went on to suggest that director Ashwin should simply delete the scenes with the actress as they seemed rather “unnecessary.”
Despite these criticisms, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ continues to draw audiences and the proofs in the growing box office numbers. The film which has already begun on a record-breaking note, is expected to raise the bar for Indian cinema in the country and on the global scale.
