Shabana Azmi, SS Rajamouli, Ritesh Sidhwani and other Indians amongst Oscars’ 487 new members, reveals Oscar Academy Member Ujwal Nirgudkar |

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that it is inviting 487 new members to join. If all accept, the total membership will increase to 10,910, with 9,934 being eligible to vote.
The invitations extend to individuals from 68 countries, with 46 percent of the new members being women and 41 percent coming from underrepresented ethnic or racial groups.56 percent are from countries and territories outside the US.

Ujwal Nirgudkar, Oscar Academy Member, told ETimes, “Like every year, the Indian film fraternity is prominently represented in this year’s new Oscar Academy member list. The list includes veteran actress Ms. Shabana Azmi, director SS Rajamouli, producer Ritesh Sidhwani, and many others. Congratulations to all for this new honour!”

This year, the Academy invited 487 new members, an increase from the 398 invited in 2023. The highest number of invitees, 928, was in 2018 during the Academy’s initiative to diversify its membership.
