Nana Patekar recalls Rishi Kapoor’s habit of abusing on sets and refusing to give more than one take |

The sets of ‘Hum Dono‘, a 1995 film, saw two famous short-tempered actors working with each other. Nana Patekar recalled how difficult it was to make Rishi Kapoor do more than one take for the action thriller, as he would lose his control while filming.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Nana spilled the tea on the bond they shared during the shooting.Patekar recalled that Rishi abused him a lot. He was asked if Kapoor would abuse him more than him, and Nana exclaimed and said that Rishi would get annoyed a lot. Rishi would give only one take and not more and say that they are extempore and not theater guys like them.
Nana Patekar recalled how Rishi would lose his temper every time he was asked to give another take. By the fifth take, Rishi Kapoor had the shot right, but he was highly annoyed.“I once asked him to give it another shot, as the first one was terrible. He said, ‘Who is the director here? Shafi, or you? Hatao yaar isko.‘ He gave the second take, which was also bad. I told him, ‘Chintu ye bakwaas hai’, and he then started abusing. Itni gandi gaaliyan! By the fifth take, he was like, ‘Now I will hit you!’ but that was the best take! That was the take that made it into the film. When I came for dubbing, I told him it was retained, and he said (annoyed), ‘Ha theek hai yaar.’

Nana recalled that they used to talk a lot during Rishi’s cancer treatment and shared that they had a lot of meaningful conversations, which made their bond really strong. Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018 and went to New York City for treatment. He passed away in 2020.
