Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha and actor Zaheer Iqbal, who tied the knot on Sunday, found themselves at the centre of online trolling, over their inter-faith marriage. Hours after sharing dreamy photos from their private civil wedding ceremony, many noted that the couple turned off the comments option on the post announcing their marriage.
Sonakshi and Zaheer shared a joint message, announcing their union.In a heartfelt post, explaining the significance of their wedding date, they wrote, “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017), in each other’s eyes, we saw love in its purest form and dedicated to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both of our families and both of our gods… we are now man and wife. Here’s to love, hope, and all things beautiful with each other, from now until forever.”

The couple shared a handful of photos from their intimate ceremony that was held at their sea-facing Bandra West apartment. The wedding was attended by close friends and family.
While at first, messages of love and good wishes poured in from friends and fans alike, it was noted that there was also an influx of hate and trolling.

The barrage of negative comments from internet trolls prompted the two to disable comments on the post. Despite the overwhelming support from fans and well-wishers, trolls took to social media to post derogatory remarks and unwarranted criticism about the couple.
The newlyweds have received an outpouring of support from their peers in the industry. Fans of Sonakshi and Zaheer have also rallied behind the couple, flooding their social media with messages of love and encouragement. Many expressed disappointment over the trolling and called for more respectful behaviour online.

Sonakshi and Zaheer dressed in shades of ivory as they signed their wedding papers. The intimate ceremony saw daddy Sinha smiling away as he stood firmly by his daughter’s side and blessed the couple on their union.
Sonakshi’s ‘Heeramandi’ co-star Aditi Rao Hydari, her fiancé actor Siddharth, and actor-friend Huma Qureshi were among the guests who were present for the ceremony.

Sweets were distributed to the media stationed outside the reception venue, accompanied by a message from the couple: “Thank you for showering us with so much love, happiness, and kindness on the most important day of our lives! Your support and wishes mean the world to us.”
The intimate wedding was followed up with a grand Bollywood-style wedding that went on till the wee hours of the morning. For the reception, the bride changed from her ivory saree to a red saree.
