YRF releases a statement after Gujarat court removes the stay on Junaid Khan’s ‘Maharaj’ | Hindi Movie News

After the Gujarat High Court removed its injunction against the movie’s release, YRF released a statement. Junaid Khan’s debut film is currently streaming on Netflix. The court decided that the movie, which was based on incidents surrounding the Maharaj Libel Case in 1862, was not meant to offend any particular community.
In the statement by YRF, the film’s creators submitted a thank-you note acknowledging Karsandas Mulji, one of our nation’s most significant social reformers.
“We are grateful to the judiciary for allowing the release of Maharaj, a film that celebrates one of the most important social reformers of our country, Karsandas Mulji. Karsandas, a hero and a devout Vaishnav, stood for righteousness, protected women and safeguarded his community and faith. Maharaj is a tribute to his indomitable fighting spirit and his courage to be on the right side of history (sic),” the statement read.
They went on to say that YRF has a 50-year history and has never created any material that damaged the reputation of the country. “Yash Raj Films has a 50-year-old legacy of championing India, its stories, its people, culture and heritage. We have never produced a film that has tarnished the reputation of our country or our countrymen. Hope you watch Maharaj and join us in saluting Karsandas. Thank You (sic),” the statement added.
After seeing the movie, Justice Sangeeta K. Vishen, who had originally banned the film’s release on June 13, allowed Netflix to stream it. Aamir Khan’s son Junaid, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Sharvari Wagh all play significant roles in the film ‘Maharaj’.
‘Maharaj’, which had been scheduled for release on June 14, was postponed after the High Court prohibited Netflix from streaming it. This ruling was made in response to a court petition filed by a group of businessmen who claimed the movie may offend the Vaishnav community‘s religious sensibilities.
