Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Mr and Mrs Mahi, directed by Sharan Sharma and backed Karan Johar, is enjoying a decent run at the box office, despite new releases like Chandu Champion and Munjya. In three weeks, the film has earned Rs 35.56 crore.
In the film, Janhvi Kapoor plays a budding cricketer who turns into a professional one after the support of her husband, played by Rajkummar Rao.In the cricket sequences, Janhvi can be seen playing perfect cricketing shots like square cuts, cover drives and she even attempted shots like scoop and reverse sweep. Talking about it in an exclusive interview with ETimes, director Sharan Sharma said that Janhvi trained with two coaches Abhishek Nayar of Kolkatta Knight Riders and Vikrant Yeligeti. He said , “I feel very happy to hear praises about Janhvi’s cricket skills because I’ve also been that guy; a cricket nerd, and absolute cricket lover who’s very watched other cricket movies and said this doesn’t happen. So this film put immense pressure on me. The two coaches of Janhvi have worked really hard on keeping in mind even the smallest details. The cricket fan in me is proud of her. “
Talking about her cricketing shots like scoop and reverse sweep, he said, “Strangely the sweep and reverse sweep came to her quite naturally.The scoop is something that I put in while shooting the sequence. My DOP and I had actually suggested that it would be fun if Janhvi could pull off a Surya Kumar Yadav kind of scoop, which we all love. And we had never trained for that shot. So Janhvi started training for it a week before and during the shoot. I don’t remember now but she picked it up quickly.”
