In India, Banita Sandhu is known for her performance in films like October, Sardar Udham and Adithya Varma. The actress has now gone on to become a huge sensation as she bagged the role of Sita Malhotra in one of Netflix’s biggest shows – Bridgerton.
Talking about her journey from Indian shores to the streaming platform being viewed across the globe, she said , “I don’t think I have processed it till now … it has been overwhelming, it has been so lovely.The loveliest part of the response has been from the audience in India, how proud they are to see one of their own on such a big show. I think that’s what has touched my heart the most.”
Before Bridgerton, the actress was last seen in Canada based singer AP Dhillon’s single ‘With You’, which crossed over 100 million views on Youtube in just 10 months. When asked if the song was in any way responsible for her getting the number, Banita said , “ I auditioned for the show in the summer of 2022, a whole year before AP’s video came out. I was actually on a holiday with my family and my agent sent me a soft tape and luckily I had a tripod in my suitcase, I quickly shot my video and within two days I was told ‘you are booked’. So I had to wrap my holiday early which I was more than happy to as I went straight to costume trails and then on the sets. It was an incredibly quick turn around,”
Banita also shared that it was her mother whom she informed first that she had bagged the role in Bridgerton. She also revealed that her mother was very much aware about the show as the first season came out during the pandemic and it grabbed many eyeballs and just the mention of the show is enough to realize that it is a big deal.
