Imtiaz Ali recalls the biggest ‘humiliation’ of his life;’ ‘When I had to repeat…’ | Hindi Movie News

Bollywood’s ace filmmaker Imtiaz Ali who is currently enjoying the success of his latest film, Amar Singh Chamkila, recalled his school days and the humiliation he felt when he had to repeat the ninth grade.
In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Imtiaz Ali shared that failing the ninth standard and having to repeat the class was a moment of great humiliation and shame for him.He explained that this experience forced him to think deeply and become independent.
When asked about the reason for his failure, the director laughingly mentioned that his love for movies might have contributed to him flunking the grade.
Imtiaz Ali noted that during this time, he was living with his relatives in Jamshedpur because his father had recently been transferred. He explained that his relatives owned cinema halls in Jamshedpur, and with two theatres very close to the house, he ended up spending a lot of time watching films.
Ali added that his parents were not present because transfers occur during the academic year, and he was already studying in Jamshedpur, which might have contributed to his focus on movies rather than academics.
Imtiaz added that he wouldn’t have described himself as a “good student” even before this incident. He shared that he was very good in the beginning, even receiving a double promotion from KG to Class 2. However, he became mediocre over time and eventually failed in Class 9. After this failure, he improved and became a good student.
Meanwhile, Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, was released on the OTT platform on April 12, 2024.
