Main Hoon Na action director Allan Amin says he strung Shah Rukh Khan from a helicopter and put him on a cable: ‘They used special effects in Jawan, Pathaan’ | Hindi Movie News

With his jaw-dropping stunts in ‘Main Hoon Na’, action director Allan Amin unleashed a new era in Indian action cinema twenty years ago. With Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, Farah Khan‘s 2004 action movie continues to be loved even 20 years later. Allan, who was responsible for the action scenes in the film, recently gave insight into the process of creating SRK’s exhilarating, helicopter-swinging, rickshaw-riding, bomb-dodging action sequences.
Allan, who worked on the action sequences of ‘Dhoom’, ‘Dus’, ‘Dhoom 2’, and other films, had previously worked with SRK in ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’ and ‘Dil Se’ (1998) as well.During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he revealed that he was the one who introduced cables while shooting action scenes in Bollywood, adding that he first used a cable in Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mission Kashmir’.
Speaking on SRK’s fight scenes in ‘Main Hoon Na’, Allan reminisced, “He was always sure about what he wanted. Then I made it simpler and doable. Main Hoon Na was the first film in which we brought deep freeze…it was a 180-degree camerawork. It was used in the cycle rickshaw scene.” He continued by saying that using cables on SRK made shooting and achieving the desired outcome simple.
While recalling the filming of Main Hoon Na’s most challenging climax scene, where SRK’s character Ram had to flee as the building behind him blew up, Allan disclosed, “We first made SRK run and then we conducted the explosion. In the post-production, both were merged. You can’t have an actor up there during an explosion,” he said, adding that the team needed to time it perfectly. There were plenty of action and combat sequences in the movie, yet no one was hurt.
While Allan acknowledged that SRK performed brilliantly in the adrenaline-pumping action sequences in ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’, he also pointed out that, in contrast to ‘Main Hoon Na’, special effects were used to produce the desired effect in those films. “In Main Hoon Na, he did action for real. We put him on cable, and we hung him from the helicopter. We made him do all those things. In Pathaan and Jawan, it’s all done against the green screen. Hence, the impact is not that much,” he expressed.
Farah Khan made her debut as a director with the film ‘Main Hoon Na’. The film received commercial success at the box office. It also starred Zayed Khan, Sushmita Sen, Naseeruddin Shah, Amrita Rao and Suniel Shetty among others.
