Kunal Kohli reveals actors’ entourages dictate film choices today |

Filmmaker-producer-actor Kunal Kohli, who is best known for his films ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Fanaa’, has opened up about how an actor’s entourage dictates film choices nowadays. He stated that today a film is no longer made with the ‘confidence of a director’, but as per the ‘approval of an actor’.
In an interview with Indian Express, Kunal spoke about how the actor’s approval to a film orbits around the entourage. He also recalled the time when they used to joke on sets that the heroine’s mother had to say yes for a film, however, now everything depends on the entourage’s decision.
“The entourage has to say yes– which includes everyone, from the managers, agents, makeup men, hairdressers. That whole entourage has to first agree and then the actor (says yes),” Kunal said.
Kunal mentioned that there has been a significant paradigm shift in content creation, where the actor now plays a crucial role in determining the budget, securing a producer, and even getting the film made. Unlike in the past, when the director would decide the type of films to create, the actor’s influence has become paramount.

He expressed that today, that kind of power only relies on a handful of filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali as the rest often have to wait to get a nod from the actor.
