Farah Khan reveals why Amitabh Bachchan, Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar were not a part of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ song: ‘Abhishek-Aishwarya were getting married’ |



Every Bollywood fan knows the iconic song ‘Deewangi Deewangi‘ from Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Om Shanti Om‘, featuring 31 Bollywood stars including Dharmendra, Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Kajol. However, Farah Khan once revealed that despite her wishes, Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t participate in the song.
In a chat on IFTDA Official’s YouTube channel with Pallavi Joshi, Farah explained that Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t participate in the ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ song shoot due to Abhishek Bachchan‘s wedding that week.Farah humorously added that since the industry wasn’t invited to the wedding, many stars showed up for the shoot instead.

The filmmaker also discussed why Dilip Kumar and Saira Bano couldn’t join the shoot. She mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan had promised to personally bring them to the set. Each day, Farah would ask Shah Rukh about their arrival, and he would assure her that he would fetch them the next day. Reflecting humorously, Farah noted that even 12 years after the movie’s release, she is still waiting for Shah Rukh to fulfill that promise.

Farah added that several actors couldn’t make it to the shoot. Hema Malini was out of town, and with only six days allotted for filming, everyone adjusted their schedules accordingly. Some even “gatecrashed” the shoot, showing up unexpectedly.
Dev Anand, Aamir Khan, and Fardeen Khan were notable absentees from the star-studded song. Farah Khan shared in an interview with Film Companion that she approached Dev Anand for a cameo, but he declined, citing his preference for lead roles. Similarly, Aamir Khan was asked but declined the offer.

During the interview, Farah disclosed that Shah Rukh Khan generously gifted goodie bags worth Rs 1 lakh to all the actors present at the shoot. Additionally, the female actors were allowed to keep the costumes, which were specially designed by Manish Malhotra for the song sequence.

In 2007, Bollywood witnessed the release of ‘Om Shanti Om,’ which marked Deepika Padukone’s debut in the industry. Alongside Padukone, the film featured prominent actors such as Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher in significant roles.
