Janhvi Kapoor has been vocal about bonding with her parents Boney Kapoor and the late screen icon Sridevi. Recently, the actress revealed that from a very young age, she would be terrified of losing her parents and would often worry herself into the night when they went out for dinners or trips.
In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Janhvi shared that she was always paranoid about losing her parents, even from a young age.She recalled feeling anxious every time they went out at night for an event or travelled without her. Even in small situations, like when they were shopping duty-free and she had boarded the plane with her nanny, she would worry that they wouldn’t board the flight or come back home.
The actress admitted to waking up at night and sometimes going into their room to check if they were breathing, describing it as a weird paranoia.
Janhvi mentioned that as she’s grown older, her maternal instincts have become more prominent. She expressed respect for the Indian tradition of taking care of parents as they age, saying that after a certain point, parents become like their children.
The actress acknowledged that she will give her father more allowances for not always being emotionally available, understanding that it is now her time to be there for him. Janhvi also mentioned that she is ‘borderline obsessed’ with her dad and that she and her sister, Khushi Kapoor, often ‘mother’ each other.
The actress went on to say that people tend to be too hard on their parents, acknowledging that everyone is affected by their upbringing in some way. Janhvi pointed out that nobody has a perfect relationship with their parents because there’s no manual on how to do it right. She emphasized the importance of self-forgiveness and forgiveness towards parents, urging people to give love and support to their parents despite any past issues.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Janhvi is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film ‘Mr. & Mrs. Mahi’ with Rajkummar Rao. The film is all set to release in theatres on May 31.
