Opening day of Cannes 2024: Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda, and Greta Gerwig shine on the Red Carpet | English Movie News



At the 77th Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 14, Meryl Streep was honored with a special Palme d’Or award. Greta Gerwig‘s jury was also introduced on the opening day of the event.
The Cannes red carpet rolled out in France on the same day, drawing numerous celebrities and filmmakers from all over the world to the French Riviera for one of the most esteemed film gatherings.
The festival began with Meryl Streep being presented the honorary Palme d’Or after an introduction by Juliette Binoche, which was followed by a long-standing ovation. Streep expressed gratitude on stage, saying, “I’m just so grateful that you haven’t gotten sick of my face and you haven’t gotten off of the train.”
The feature film jury, led by Greta Gerwig of ‘Barbie’ fame, posed on the red carpet. Gerwig, the first American female filmmaker to preside over the Cannes jury, will oversee the selection of the festival’s top honor, the Palme d’Or.
Actress Jane Fonda, 86, attended the film festival and turned heads with her stunning appearance in a black long-sleeve jumpsuit. Juliette Binoche introduced Meryl Streep before she received the honorary Palme d’Or.
German-American model and TV host Heidi Klum also graced the opening ceremony in a gorgeous red gown.
