Is Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD delayed to June 20 due to VFX challenges? – Exclusive | Hindi Movie News

Following the triumph of ‘Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire‘, anticipation mounts for Prabhas’ next blockbuster, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. Joining forces with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Dulquer Salmaan, and Kamal Haasan, Prabhas ventures into the realms of sci-fi drama with this movie. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film stands as a pinnacle of extravagance, boasting remarkable visual effects and a hefty budget, marking it as a monumental cinematic endeavor.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ was earlier slated for release on January 30, but the film missed it and May 9 was announced as the fresh release date. But looks like the film will skip that date as well, since Lok Sabha elections are taking place all over the country in a staggered manner and the dates for voting in the state of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh fall on May 13. Considering this situation, it will not be profitable for the makers to release the movie alongside the elections. Buzz suggested that ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ will hit the screens on May 30, which is considered to be a good choice, as the film will get a lot of IMAX screens across the globe, since for the earlier date, IMAX had a deal with the Kingdom of Planet of Apes for two weeks. But within weeks of informing the distributors of the May release, a new date began doing the rounds and that was June 20.
But sources exclusively tell ETimes that June 20 is also not confirmed, despite the makers aiming for it. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is an extremely VFX heavy film and the road to release looks challenging. Also if the film misses the June 20 date, it will become a difficult task to get a good release date as many biggies in South are already lined up to hit the screen. Indian 2 in June, Pushpa 2 in August, G.O.A.T in September and Devara in October – the calendar is booked with biggies.
Director Nag Ashwin was recently part of a conversation at IIT Bombay and talking about the film he had shared, “In India, we do not have a lot of sci-fi films. We have done a few time travel films. This one is different because it’s in a whole separate world on its own. Also, in the international sense, it is new because we have not seen India in a future setting or dystopian setting. So now we don’t have to look at London and New York being born, now we can see our cities also.”
