‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ is considered as one of the best slice-of-life movies made by Hindi cinema. Zoya Akhtar still gets accolades for this one and it makes for such high repeat value on OTT and every time it plays on television. The movie starred Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Kalki Koechlin among others. But did you know that during its time of release, the industry insiders did not have very high expectations from it.
Abhay has recently revealed in an interview that people had doubts about the movie.“When we were making Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, so many people in the film industry were asking ‘who is the villain? There is no villain. What is inner conflict? Who will come to watch Hrithik Roshan’s inner conflict?’ We were hearing this kind of chatter.”
Many people thought what’s a film without a villain and hence it wouldn’t work. He further added, “With the kind of packaging that it got, the film could become successful despite the naysayers. That is how it was fresh. That these kind of actors and making this kind of film and in this budget, and it worked. But the film industry did not have much faith that it would work.”
The actor also spoke about his other films like ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’, which didn’t get any screens. He said that due to the small marketing budget of the movie, it couldn’t perform well at the box office.
