In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic’s crippling effect on the film industry starting in 2020, concerns over the future of theatrical business loomed large.However, Aditya Chopra’s prediction proved right as box office records were shattered in 2023, signaling a magnificent revival.
The comeback began with Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster ‘Pathaan,’ bankrolled under the banner of Aditya Chopra, which became the first Hindi film to surpass the Rs 500 crore mark, ultimately grossing Rs 545 crore. Boney Kapoor revealed to Indian Express that Aditya Chopra had anticipated this success long before it happened.
Recalling a conversation with Aditya Chopra, Boney Kapoor shared, “Adi Chopra once said to me, ‘Boney ji, you can’t imagine what’s in store for the box office – it’s going to explode. Movies will rake in more than Rs 500 crore.’ His remarkable foresight truly showcases his intelligence.”
Boney Kapoor further praised Aditya Chopra’s achievements, emphasizing his ability to surpass his illustrious father, filmmaker Yash Chopra.
Notably, since ‘Pathaan,’ several Hindi films, including ‘Gadar 2,’ ‘Jawan,’ and many others have crossed Rs 500 crores, marking the comeback of the theatrical business.
