As Boney Kapoor‘s much-anticipated film ‘Maidaan’ inches near its release, a vendor has filed a case against Maidaan’s producer, Boney Kapoor, over non-payment of dues of nearly Rs. 1 crore.
According to the complainant, Ninad Nayampally, they supplied camera-related equipment to the ‘Maidaan’ unit. Ninad claimed to have moved court after there was no response to invoices and legal notices for non-payment.
The hearing took place at Dindoshi Court, and Boney Kapoor and others have been asked to file a reply. The lawyer for Ninad Nayampally Namrata Biyawat said, “The matter was taken up today, where Bayview Projects LLP filed their reply through its Advocates. Boney Kapoor and other directors have not filed any replies yet with the court.
Zee Studio Ltd. chose not to appear in court today for reasons best known to them, despite the service of notice twice upon them. We have filed our affidavit of service in court.
The next hearing is now fixed by the Hon’ble Court at 2:45 pm on March 28th, Thursday, for the stay on screening of the film and attaching the rights of Boney Kapoor’s film Maidaan.”
Meanwhile, Boney Kapoor, in an interview with Mid-Day, clarified that he owes Rs. 63 lakhs to Meherafrin Investments Private Limited, not Rs. 1 crore as claimed. He stated, “I have spoken to my team, and he (Ninad) has been told that he would be paid before the release of the picture, which is only a month away. Not only that, but other vendors have also been promised the same. Everybody knows that the movie was stuck because of COVID.”
“I have made 45 films, and nobody has been deprived of my company. There is no way that I will avoid any kind of payment. This is nothing but an arm-twisting tactic. I will clear whatever the bill is, excluding interest on the pending amount. We will reply to whatever is mentioned in the suit in court, but he can’t seek an injunction before Rs 63 lakh is paid.” Kapoor added.
