Karan Johar praises Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ for its unique approach and narrative |



At an event recently, Karan Johar shared his unfiltered thoughts on the controversial film ‘Animal,’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. Despite the polarizing debates surrounding the movie’s portrayal of toxic masculinity, Johar expressed his genuine appreciation for the film’s unique approach and narrative.
Addressing the ongoing debates, Johar acknowledged the diverse opinions surrounding ‘Animal’ and the filmmaker’s unapologetic stance. He said that people have been for and against the movie, and openly expressed their opinions, including the director himself.

Delving into his personal experience with the film, Johar shared that he saw it as a character film based on a someone who was deeply dysfunctional, inherently violent, and had many emotional issues—and he loved the treatment.
The director-producer emphasized his admiration for the filmmaking aspects, including sound design, screenplay, dialogue, and character development. The narrative captivated him, transcending the moral complexities often associated with such subject matter.

He further acknowledged the varied responses to his endorsement of the film. He confessed people have called me and expressed both their agreement and disagreement with him. He said he needs to have his own opinion of the movies and whether criticism comes with it or love, he should be able to embrace both.
‘Animal,’ released in December 2023, emerged as one of the standout hits of the year, marking a significant milestone in Ranbir Kapoor’s career as his highest-grossing film.
