Taapsee Pannu speaks about the ‘Paratha recipe’ scene from ‘Dunki’ |

All those who have watched ‘Dunki’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu, have laughed their lungs out on the hilarious ‘Paratha recipe’ scene. The scene where Manu Randhawa, played by Taapsee, is asked to talk about the recipe of the paratha, she had that morning, left everyone in splits. But did you know that she gave that exceptional performance in a single take?
In a recent interview with Zoom, Taapsee revealed that the entire team including her was wondering about how the ‘Paratha scene’ could be conveyed properly.“A day prior to that shoot, we were sitting together in a meeting room and discussing that ‘this is on paper, now how do we perform it’. We were thinking about how to make it endearingly funny, and not make it look cheesy and weird,” Taapsee said.
She further added that all of them were unsure how the scene would turn out because they hadn’t seen her doing a fully-fledged comedy sequence. “I kept practicing in front of them. I am not a person who enjoys doing a lot of rehearsals as I feel like I am spending, and when I perform that emotion won’t come from within,” she added. The team had decided to spend half the day of the shoot to capture the ‘Paratha recipe’ scene, however, much to everyone’s surprise the first take itself was good!
During the interview, Taapsee also talked about Bollywood camps. “Bollywood camps are there. The nepotism debate that we talk about is the problem of getting access,” she said. She further added that landing films with massive budgets is often difficult for her, not because someone would disrespect her and think she is not fit for the role, but because her name would never come up, as actors part of those ‘camps’ would be recommended. “The harsh reality is that big films is about access and I don’t have that access to make it into that room,” she stated. She also revealed that the way to such camps is often late-night parties, which she is not comfortable with.
